The MIIA Platform

Miia isn’t simply an mask... it’s also the software platform for providers. Our application is an integrated platform for the creation, manufacturing, and distribution of patient matched respiratory devices...

How it works.

All aspects of our service from scanning to ordering are contained within a single tablet device. Using the attached 3D scanner, our software can guide any clinician through the process of taking a scan, uploading it to our server and tracking the mask from creation to delivery.

Patient on-boarding

During a scheduled visit from an interested patient, a clinician simply opens our application on the provided tablet. The application has been designed with efficiency and ease of use in mind. Clinicians simply add the patient in the application and they are ready to scan and order for them.

Scanning

Our team of designers has put considerable energy into ensuring the scanning process is highly curated and intuitive. The scanning software will guide you through the process of scanning a patient, indicating through visual cues when and where to sweep the scanner around the patient’s face. Once the scanner has collected enough data, the software will automatically notify you that the scan has been completed and upload the scan wirelessly to our secure server. The scanning process will take an estimated one to two minutes to complete.

Production

After a scan is complete, the tablet application will guide the provider to “place an order” for the patient. Once an order is confirmed, software running on our server generates a manufacturing file from the scan, which provides for a 3D mold of the mask based on the patient’s face. Once our software team has reviewed this file, they instruct the server to send it out for production to our manufacturers’ iso 13485-certified production facility in denver colorado. Our mask molds are printed, cleaned, inspected, and cast out of medical-grade silicone.

Shipping

The finished order will be shipped back to providers site where they can be dispensed to patient. To ensure that every mask can be reliably matched to the intended patient, each mask will bear a unique id number embedded into the silicone. Our software provides a check-in process to ensure the clinician can verify without any doubt the mask is patient matched. The entire process for making a custom, 100% unique mask takes two weeks from the time of order.
Will Miia really be that much better than existing CPAP interfaces?

All currently available CPAP masks made for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) come in standard sizes, but everyone’s face is different. Having a 3D-printed CPAP mask that is based on a scanned image of your face will mean a custom mask made just for you! We believe that this will not only make Miia more comfortable than anything on the market today, but it is also designed to help alleviate many of the complaints associated with most CPAP interfaces: abrasion, leakage, decoupling, and strap marks..

When will Miia be available?

Metamason is glad that you’re excited to see Miia come to market! We are currently in the middle of the application process with the federal drug administration (fda), and we anticipate receiving approval from the fda in late 2017. Once it’s approved, you’ll be able to purchase Miia from participating sleep providers, medical suppliers, and sleep physicians.

Will there be an opportunity to try Miia before it hits the market?

Other than during sanctioned clinical trials, while Miia is moving through the fda approval process, we are unfortunately not permitted to pre-release versions of Miia to the public.

Will you be releasing a full-face version of Miia or other interface styles?

The first Miia model we’ll be releasing is the nasal pillow. We have plans to offer several versions of Miia, including a full-face model, so that each patient can choose the best mask for their needs. It is worth noting that each version will require fda approval, and so the roll-out for the forthcoming versions will happen once the Miia nasal pillow is on the market.

Will Miia be available outside of the United States?

The first Miia model we’ll be releasing is the nasal pillow. We have plans to offer several versions of Miia, including a full-face model, so that each patient can choose the best mask for their needs. It is worth noting that each version will require fda approval, and so the roll-out for the forthcoming versions will happen once the Miia nasal pillow is on the market.

Will there be an opportunity to try Miia before it hits the market?

OSA affects large portions of the population regardless of their residence. Our goal is to ensure as many people as possible have access to Miia as soon as possible. That said, we are currently focused on our us launch but will look to expand into other areas after our initial launch..
